What does the Mustard Seed Furniture Bank accomplish?
“Furnishing help to rebuild lives.” That is what we do at the Mustard Seed Furniture Bank of Fort Wayne. We were established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2002 with the mission, “to provide household furnishings to families and individuals as they rebuild their lives after suffering disaster, personal tragedy or other misfortunes.”
This is accomplished through a simple referral process that utilizes over 130 local agencies, churches, and non-profit organizations The Mustard Seed’s assistance is limited to once in a lifetime, so clients know that they must take care of the items and we do not offer a revolving door of services. All furnishings are donated by individuals, organizations, and businesses.
The assistance that the Mustard Seed provides to a family of four including new beds for the children will save them over $650, which can then be used for other basic needs.
Since our inception through August 2009 the Mustard Seed has assisted over 3,650 households touching the lives of over 4,550 adults and over 6,050 children from Allen, DeKalb, Noble, Whitley, Huntington, Wells and Adams counties.
